Project Psalm: Fear Psalms 36:10

Psalms 36:10

Sin directs the heart of the wicked man;
his eyes are closed to the fear of God.

Fear of God? What does that mean?  Why should we fear a God that is so abundant in love and mercy?

1Fear,  to be afraid of (someone or something) as likely to be dangerous, painful, or threatening.

Fear of God is not like a fear of snakes, spiders, falling, or the dark.  A fear of God means to submit, to be humbled, to respect, and to  feel the heat of the sun on your face and to know that it sits in space by God’s will alone.

A fear of God is to know that we are tiny ants moving about, working, serving, assembling, disassembling, at the pleasure of God.

A fear of God is to realize no matter how many mountains you climb, how many thrones you ascend, how many friends you have on Facebook, you will never be as great as the ground that God treads upon.

2 Fear, to regard (God) with reverence and awe.
