Project Psalm: I Sing Because I’m Happy

Psalm 40:10

When I sing of your righteousness
in a great assembly,
See, I do not restraiin my lips;
as you, Lord, know.

I can not sing.  I try. I try really hard, much to the dismay of those around me.  I can feel the song well up in me like a geyser ready to explode from the earth. I open my mouth for this beautiful, powerful, and awe inspiring monumental music- an expression of the joy and love I feel for God, but all I get is something between a cat in heat and a baby wailing.  It is not pretty, not pretty sounding.

I sing anyways,

I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free
For his eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me
– excerpt from His Eye Is On the Sparrow, Civilla D. Martin

I sing. I sing of God’s love for me and my exuberant love for him and although my earthly song may not sound heavenly when it reaches the ears of Our Father in Heaven it carries the weight of all the prayers in my heart, with a melodiousness to rival the greatest of Mozart.
