In 2020 something significant happened in the world. Alongside the pandemic something significant happened in the world of Psalm music. On the first week of the year 'Poor Bishop Hooper' began their calling to faithfully release one intricately composed and recorded psalm song every week for 3 years (Jan 2020 to Dec 2022).
In total Jesse and Leah wrote and produced 171 songs that play for a astounding total of 11 hours and 18 minutes (yes you read correctly 171 songs not 150! This is because 'Poor Bishop Hooper' released a 21 track album on the Psalm 119 week).
It took these songs until mid year 2023 to hit 10 million listens across the project. Psalm 1 will be the first of their Psalms to reach 1 million listens later this year.
These songs continue to grow with affection in my heart. I came upon Poor Bishop Hooper looking for a song to accompany Psalm 88 for a friend who was suffering. When I found Poor Bishop Hooper's Psalm 88 I felt the feelings of dissertion and despair which accompanies the words of the Psalm and thus was able to empathise more fully with my friend. Having started my personal journey seeing how they handled the complex darkness of Psalm 88 it has been a joy to spend increasing amount of times with the 171 songs.
Join me in praying that these songs will be useful in many contexts and for many people in many places and for many years.
